It's Not Always Peachy

Life is not always peachy on this end, I have my good days and bad days. I figured since this blog is aimed at documenting my travel experiences I might as well keep it real and document both the good and the bad.

Today was my bad day and I am talking "ready to pack my bags and stop this madness" kind of day. Spanish class was frustrating, the heat was getting to me, combine the heat with mosquito bites and try to imagine how uncomfortable it can get. There was some misunderstanding with my roommate at the apartment and finally I took the bus by myself for the first time and got lost. Fortunately I was able to get off near my neighborhood and take a taxi to the apartment. Today I realized how vulnerable I feel due to the language barrier and even though everyone tells me to take it easy and not be hard on myself, it is hard not to especially when it feels like it's affecting my independence and forcing me to rely on other people for certain things. I am not used to that.

Sometimes I wonder why the hell I am even doing this and I have moments when I feel tempted to pack my bags, head back home and get a job because it is within my comfort zone. Sometimes I will have moments of pure satisfaction and other times I will have moments of doubt and discouragement. It's all part of adjusting outside my comfort zone.

Folks, it's not always peachy on this end but I know one day I will look back at this and feel immensely proud of myself at having taken on this challenge.

  1. This is Amber--you know I feel your pain on the not being able to communicate. Hang in there! I am impressed with how much you are writing in your blog, I am so behind! Back to Spanish homework...
